Summary

FROM X-RAY STUDIES FULFILLED IN THE TEMPERATURE RANGE 4.2-300 K A LATTICE INSTABILITY WAS FOUND NEAR 80 K. TEMPERATURE DEPENDENCES OF RESISTIVITY, MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY AND SPECIFIC HEAT OF THE SYSTEM WERE MEASURED. BY ANALYZING THE OBTAINED EXPERIMENTAL RESULTS AND LITERATURE DATA ON NEUTRON INELASTIC SCATTERING THE PHONON HEAT CAPACITY AND ITS ANHARMONIC COMPONENT WERE QUANTITATIVELY CALCULATED FOR THE FIRST TIME. THE VALUES OF RESISTIVITY, MAGNETIC SUSCEPTIBILITY AND SPECIFIC HEAT ARE FOUND TO BEHAVE ANOMALOUSLY NEAR THE TEMPERATURE 80 K, WHERE THE LATTICE INSTABILITY OCCURS.
