Performance analysis of a scroll compressor working with propane for heat recovery applications.

Summary

In the frame of the EU project NxtHPG a heat pump working with propane for heat recovery applications was developed. The design of the compressor was optimized for the application of heat recovery and the use of propane as refrigerant. The compiled results show that the modifications undertaken were effective and the compressor efficiencies with propane are higher than with R410A. This paper presents an analysis of the compressor performance, the compressor operation envelope for this application, and the characterization of the compressor performance with an adequate functional in order to be able to scale the obtained results to other cases.
