Performance analysis of a solar-powered air-conditioning system based on structural and operational parameters.

Author(s) : ZHAI X. Q., WANG R. Z.

Summary

A solar-powered adsorption air-conditioning system is introduced. The system mainly consists of vacuum tube solar collectors of area 150 m2, two adsorption chillers with nominal cooling capacity of 8.5 kW for each. The mathematical model of the solar-powered adsorption air-conditioning system is established. Under the typical weather condition of Shanghai, the average cooling capacity of solar powered air-conditioning system is 15.31 kW during operation of 8 hours. Additionally, theoretical analysis is testified to agree well with experimental results. Then the mathematical model is used to analyze the variations of cooling capacity and solar collecting efficiency of the system based on structural parameters including solar collector area, water tank volume and height to diameter ratio of water tank. Besides, the system performances are analyzed according to operational parameters including initial temperature of water tank and mass flow rate ratio of collector to hot water into chillers.
