Performance analysis of air-cooled condensing units.

Summary

A simulation model is developed to simulate the performance of air-cooled condensing units. Mathematical models were developed for all components: hermetic compressor, condenser, connecting tubes, fan and liquid receiver. Energy balance equations as well as thermodynamic properties, pressure drop and heat transfer relations are employed in the compressor semi-empirical model. It only requires experimental results from one calorimetric test as input data. An algorithm is employed to determine the steady-state operating point of the unit for a given geometry and operational conditions. Good agreement with experimental data was found. Typical applications for such model are presented.
