Summary

Unlike in water-lithium bromide absorption cycles, it is necessary to have a rectifier between the generator and the condenser in ammonia-water absorption cycles, because some steam mixes with the refrigerant vapour during refrigerant regeneration. If the flow rate of refrigerant vapour and ammonia aqueous solution decreases, steam might flow into the condenser with ammonia refrigerant vapour, which reduces cycle COPs of cooling and heating. The simulation for cycle performance based on the generator-absorber heat exchange (GAX) absorption cycle was made using the efficiency of rectifier that established the ammonia concentration in the refrigerant. It was derived that a 3% decrease in ammonia concentration in the refrigerant induced a 15% decrease in the cooling COP and a 7% decrease in the heating COP, and that there existed the most suitable circulation ratio for each ammonia concentration in refrigerant.
