Performance characterization of desiccant matrices in a dynamic flow test facility.

Summary

The desiccant matrix, as a key component, determines the viability of system's application and is the most difficult to describe in terms of its performance. Analytical tools currently used for that purpose involve solutions of simultaneous and unsteady heat and mass transfer phenomena. The results require extensive correlation with measurements of actual adsorbing beds or wheels. To simplify this process, both Institute of Gas Technology and University of Illinois at Chicago have been involved in developing a method that would allow more expeditious comparative evaluation of system designs based on direct measurements of desiccant matrices. The method of dynamic testing has now been proven as a practical tool for rating desiccant matrices. It can be used most effectively for comparing new materials, optimizing their application for various services, and also optimizing system designs for different applications and duties.
