Performance evaluation of naphthenic and synthetic oils in reciprocating compressors employing R134a as the refrigerant.

Author(s) : REYES GAVILAN J. L.

Summary

The lubricating ability and materials compatibility of mineral oils have been evaluated in test stands and refrigerators charged with R134a. Their performance is compared to that of mineral oil and R12 in the same type of systems. Specific attention has been given to the ability of the test oils to return to the compressor and to the appearance of compressor parts. Data obtained from evaluations conducted on units charged with alkylbenzene, PAG, and ester lubricants together with R134a are also presented.
