Summary

THE PERFORMANCE OF INDUSTRIAL HEAT PUMPS IS MUCH SMALLER THAN THOSE WHICH CORRESPOND TO THE THEORETICAL CARNOT CYCLE. THIS PAPER CONSIDERS THE MULTITUBULAR SHELL AND TUBE CONDENSER AND EVAPORATOR OF AN EXPERIMENTAL HEAT PUMP. A STUDY HAS BEEN MADE OF THE IRREVERSIBILITIES OF THE COMPRESSOR, ELECTRIC MOTOR, EXPANSION VALVE, FRICTION LOSSES AND HEAT EXCHANGERS, WHICH CONTRIBUTE TO REDUCING THE PERFORMANCE ENERGY RATIO.
