Performance prediction of a hermetic reciprocating compressor.

Author(s) : PRODAN M. M.

Summary

This article is centred on hermetic reciprocating compressors for household appliances. The global model of the compressor is composed of several sub-models and a one-degree of freedom valve motion has been implemented. The flexible model accurately predicts relevant performance parameters such as volumetric and isentropic efficiency, compressor work input or COP. Hence, the author quantifies the effects of different operating conditions to identify all process characteristics. The article gives some criteria to choose the most appropriate solution in order to obtain a better economic performance. These techniques could also be used in the work of improving reciprocating compressors.
