PERFORMANCE PREDICTION OF CLOSED CIRCUIT EVAPORATIVE COOLERS AND CONDENSERS.

Summary

NUMEROUS METHODS OF ANALYSING CLOSED CIRCUIT EVAPORATIVE COOLERS AND CONDENSERS FOR THE PURPOSE OF RATING OR SIZING HAVE BEEN PRESENTED IN THE PAST. THESE RANGE FROM APPROXIMATE METHODS USING MERKEL'S APPROACH TO DETERMINE THE COMBINED HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER TO MORE RIGOROUS METHODS THAT TREAT THE HEAT AND MASS TRANSFER SEPARATELY. A BRIEF SUMMARY OF THE VARIOUS APPROACHES IS GIVEN. IT IS FOUND THAT THE SIMPLEST METHOD USING THE MOST APPROXIMATIONS GIVES REASONABLE RESULTS AND IS RECOMMENDED FOR THE EVALUATION OF SMALLER SYSTEMS AND FOR INITIAL DESIGN PURPOSES. THE MORE SOPHISTICATED METHODS SHOULD BE USED FOR MORE ACCURATE PERFORMANCE PREDICTION.
