Summary

This paper presents the performances of an evaporative air cooler under Algerian climate, at the city of BECHAR. The theory and design of an evaporative cooler has been carried out. Hourly simulation was done using AOLAN evaporative air cooler (Type AZL06) data sheet under TRNSYS program for four successive months June, July, August and September. Measured weather data of the selected site are generated by METEONORM software. The result showed that the maximum depression of the dry bulb temperature reached is about 19°C and the energy efficiency ratio (EER) is calculated. This system can be easily powered by solar photovoltaic panels in regions where electric network is not available because of its lower power consumption (280 W). The authors conclude that solar evaporative cooler has a large application potential in Algeria and is an excellent alternative of split system for regions where the design wet bulb temperature is under 24°C which constitute the two third of their country.
