Summary

An improved adsorbent which enhances both adsorptive capacity and mass transfer is described. A 35-kilowatt two-adsorber solid-adsorption-refrigerator prototype is detailed; it was designed and made based on earlier studies using a bench-scale single-adsorber refrigerator. It was constructed as a pre-cooler to a gas-driven vapour-compression heat pump by making use of the waste heat obtained from the engine exhaust gas at 60-80 deg C.
