Summary

THIS YEAR IT IS EXACTLY A CENTURY AND HALF SINCE PERKINS BUILT THE FIRST KNOWN REFRIGERATION MACHINE. IT WAS CONCEIVED ON THE SAME PRINCIPLES AS MOST OF PRESENT DAY SYSTEMS AND CONTAINED A NUMBER OF INTERESTING DESIGN DETAILS. AFTER A BRIEF OUTLINE OF THE DEVELOPMENT OF REFRIGERATION METHODS UP TO THIS TIME, THE PAPER DISCUSSES SOME IMPORTANT APPLICATIONS IN ENERGY TECHNOLOGY.
