Summary

PT PERTAMINA (Persero), Japan Organization for Energy Security (JOGMEC, and JGC were jointly conducting methane management and abatement project at onshore natural gas production facilities in Indonesia for low-carbon LNG based on the Joint Study Agreement between JOGMEC,
PT PERTAMINA (Persero) and its affiliates.
This project is part of “Asia Zero Emission Community (AZEC)” initiative led by the Japanese government and demonstrates international cooperation toward carbon neutrality in the Asian region and is implemented jointly in Indonesia in line with the idea of “Coalition for LNG Emission Abatement toward Net-zero (CLEAN)” which is led and contributed by JOGMEC.
The following activities were included in this project over the course of two years.
- Developed measurement planning and conducted measurement of methane emissions from onshore production facilities in Indonesia in accordance with OGMP2.0.
- Developed methane management plan based on the methane measurement to reduce methane emissions.
- Conducted Zero-Routine Flaring (ZRF) study at onshore production facilities in Indonesia
Based on the measurement results from the first year, a methane management plan was developed, including improvements to the LDAR programs. The plan was evaluated by comparing the second year’s measurement results with those of the first year, aiming for minimizing leaks and improve
plant integrity.
Through the analysis of operation data, the ZRF study identifies the causes of routine flaring and leads to improvements, contributing to the reduction of GHG emissions from flaring and the goal of zero routine flaring by 2030 for PT PERTAMINA (Persero).
We believe that this project will play an important role in accurately measuring of the current GHG emissions, promoting the strategic reduction of GHG emissions, and accelerating the use of lowcarbon natural gas. It will also play an important role in energy transition over the next decade.
