Phase change slurries as heat transfer and storage fluids for cooling applications.

Author(s) : GSCHWANDER S., SCHOSSIG P.

Summary

Phase change slurries (PCS) are widely discussed as an alternative heat transfer fluid for cold storage and distribution systems. So far, many publications were written dealing with microcapsules suspended in water to extend its heat capacity. Most of these publications are about research on these PCS more in a material point of view. Today, there is only one application known working with PCS as heat transfer and storage fluid. But until now only a few data were published about it in terms of energetic efficiency or its thermal-hydraulic characteristic. Therefore, this paper put its focus on the possible benefits of PCS when applied in cooling systems. The results presented here are gained by calculation and in a second step by dynamic simulation and they are always compared with similar water based system.
