Plate-fin heat exchanger performance reduction in special two-phase flow conditions.

Summary

The paper discusses the occurence of various flow patterns of a cold, upflowing two-phase stream in an aluminium plate-fin heat exchanger and their impact on the overall heat-exchanger performance. At high gas mass fluxes both phases flow uniformly upwards. At very low gas mass fluxes a sudden static instability with liquid logging was observed; thus large portions of the heating area are deactivated.
