Summary
DIFFERENT VALUES OF THE SURFACE SHIELDING FIELD DEPENDING ON SAMPLE SURFACE TREATMENT HAVE BEEN FOUND. IT HAS BEEN ESTABLISHED THAT CHEMICAL POLISHING PRACTICALLY ELIMINATES THE LOSSES FROM THE LOCAL PENETRATION OF THE MAGNETIC FLUX INTO THE SURFACE IRREGULARITIES. FOR AN AC FIELD AMPLITUDE OF 640 A/CM THE DISSIPATED POWER IN THE CHEMICALLY POLISHED NIOBIUM IS LESS BY ABOUT TWO ORDERS OF MAGNITUDE THAN FOR SAMPLES WITH NO SURFACE TREATMENT.
