SUMMER BREEZES IN NON AIR CONDITIONED BUILDINGS OCCUPIEDBY PEOPLE CAN PROVIDE A USEFUL COOLING EFFECT AND ASSIST IN MAINTAINING COMFORTABLE THERMAL CONDITIONS INDOORS. ENTRY OF AIR INTO A GIVEN BUILDING DEPENDS NOT ONLY ON THE EXTERNAL WIND VELOCITY BUT ALSO ON THE SIZE AND ORIENTATION OF OPENINGS SUCH AS WINDOWS RELATIVE TO THE WIND DIRECTION. THE PAPER PROVIDES INFORMATION ON THE DIRECTION OF PREVAILING WINDS DURING THE DAY FOR AUSTRALIAN CAPITAL CITIES WHEN THE AMBIENT DRY-BULB TEMPERATURE IS 298 K (25 DEG C) OR HIGHER BASED ON BUREAU OF METEOROLOGICAL RECORDS OVER 25 YEARS.
