Summary
In spite of a decrease in fishing capacity, the Polish processing industry is undergoing dynamic development. The average consumption of fish in Poland is 12-13 kg/capita and herring, mackerel and various type of white fish are the main types of fish consumed. Almost 400 Polish producers supply 300,000 tons of fish products annually. Poland is a net exporter of fish products, with imports basically narrowed down to fish resources. The wholesomeness of fish products determined by National Supervisor is often questionable, although, in the last few years,the sanitary quality of fish products has not been deteriorating.
