Summary

This article discusses the issues handled by the open-ended Working Group of the Parties to the Montreal Protocol on ozone-depleting substances at its seventeenth meeting held in Geneva on July 7-9, 1998. The working group's report on technical and economic assessment comprises an update on progress in adopting replacement solutions in various sectors: aerosols, solvents, various uses and carbon tetrachloride; products used in sterilization; rigid and flexible foams; halons; methyl bromide; refrigeration; air conditioning and heat pumps; military progress.
