Pumping for dollars. 1.
Author(s) : KELLY D. W.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The first of two articles discussing the applications and limitations of chilled-water pumping systems. Considers bypass valve selection. Notes how when Vanderbilt University, Nashville, Tenn., prepared to replace three 700-ton chillers with three 1,200 ton chillers, analysis showed that a single-pump-per-chiller (variable flow) pumping system would better suit the application. Lists estimated energy savings in a table. Discusses control of multiple chillers and the limitations of the variable-flow, single-pump system.
