Summary

FLASHED VAPOURS FROM A DISTILLATION COLUMN CAN BE COMPRESSED AND USED AS A HEAT SOURCE FOR THE COLUMN REBOILER. THREE METHODS ARE SUGGESTED, ONE IN WHICH AN INTERMEDIARY FLUID IS IN HEAT EXCHANGE WITH THE COMPRESSED VAPOUR CONDENSER, ONE UTILIZING THE COMPRESSOR TO VAPOURISE LIQUID FROM THE BOTTOMS, AND ONE HAVING A COMPLETE REFRIGERATION HEAT PUMP SYSTEM IN HEAT EXCHANGE WITH THE OVERHEAD VAPOURS AND THE REBOILER CIRCUIT. THESE SYSTEMS ARE DISCUSSED TOGETHER WITH REASONS FOR CHOOSING SCREW COMPRESSORS FOR THE DUTIES. D.W.H.
