Reduction of starting currents with liquid chillers: a factor of increased importance.

Summary
It is difficult or impossible to compare the starting currents of different manufacturers properly. In practice the actual starting current often turns out to be higher than expected at the design stage of the project. Extensive measurements performed on various chiller sizes and compressors indicate that the lowest possible starting currents with hermetic scroll and reciprocating compressors can be obtained by using soft starters.
