REEFERS ARE BUILT FOR THE MULTIPURPOSE SEA TRANSPORT OF MANY KINDS OF REFRIGERATED FOODS COVERING FRUIT, VEGETABLES, FISH, MEAT, ETC. THE TOTAL NUMBER OF REEFERS IN THE WORLD IS ESTIMATED AT APPROXIMATELY 670 AND THE CAPACITY ABOUT 290 MILLION CU FT. REEFERS ARE EQUIPPED WITH EFFICIENT REFRIGERATING EQUIPMENT WHICH KEEP THE REFRIGERATED CARGOES IN GOOD QUALITY BY CONTROLLING ACCURATELY THE AIR TEMPERATURE IN THE CARGO HOLD. THIS REPORT GIVES THE PRESENT STATUS OF REEFERS WITH SOME EXAMPLES OF EQUIPMENT AND CONSIDERATIONS ON ENERGY SAVING PROBLEMS IN THE FUTURE.
