World reefer fleet: steaming slower into the future?/ Vitesses réduites pour la flotte frigorifique mondiale ?
Author(s) : HOCHHAUS K. H.
Type of article: Article
Summary
The author analyzes trends in the reefer fleet; these trends show that the number of vessels has slightly dropped and that reefers are ageing (6% of the fleet, this being 81 reefers, have been in service for over 30 years). However, fleet renewal was on the rise in 1995. Shipping fuel prices rose by almost a third in 1996 and this is likely to inverse the trend towards higher reefer speeds.
