Summary

The article reviews the results of a round table held in Torino (Italy) in 1996. The main points discussed were: comparison between compression systems and absorption systems; present situation of urban heating and refrigeration (using absorption systems) in Italy; world and European market of absorption systems for the 30-35 last past years; recent trends: improvement in the efficiency, use of new refrigerants, high-pressure steam, over-heated water, direct heating of the system with gas and oil, two-stage systems, co-generation of electric power; management of networks; engineering and town-planning problems, particularly in the hospital sector; chilled water costs.
