IN RECENT YEARS, DEVELOPMENT WORK TO EXTEND THE VASE LIFE OF CUT FLOWERS HAS BEEN MAINLY DIRECTED TOWARDS CHEMICAL TREATMENTS USED IN CONJUNCTION WITH CONTROLLED TEMPERATURE AND HUMIDITY CONDITIONS. THIS SPECIAL FEATURE DISCUSSES ENVIRONMENTAL REQUIREMENTS FOR POST HARVEST STORAGE, WITH REFERENCE TO A NUMBER OF EXISTING COMMERCIAL REFRIGERATION APPLICATIONS, AND AN APPRAISAL OF POSSIBLE FUTURE TECHNOLOGY.
