Summary

EXAMINES ICE BANKS USING THE EXERGY METHOD OF ANALYSIS. TO THI S END, DEALS WITH SOME TOPICS OF EXERGY, IN PARTICULAR THE EXERGY-VARIATION OF A SYSTEM IN A FLUCTUATING TEMPERATURE ENVIRONMENT. USES THIS AS A BASIS TO EXAMINE THE CONDITIONS FOR THE TECHNICAL AND ECONOMIC CONVENIENCE OF ICE BANKS. EXAMINES VARIOUS PARAMETERS THAT AFFECT THESE PLANTS: 1) VARIATION OF THE SYSTEM EXERGY AS A CONSEQUENCE OF VARIATION IN ENVIRONMENTAL TEMPERATURE ; 2) VARIABILITY OF THE REQUIRED REFRIGERATING POWER ; 3) THE DIFFERENTIAL COSTS OF ELECTRICAL ENERGY ; 4) SERVICE RELIABILITY ; AND 5) HEAT TRANSMISSION DURING ICE PRODUCTION.
