Summary

The authors optimized an encapsulation-dehydration protocol in order to cryopreserve in vitro Dioscorea floribunda shoot tips. Dioscorea floribunda is a key source of diosgenin, a substance used in steroidal drugs. 87% survival was achieved, this being a significantly improved survival rate than that obtained previously.
