DESCRIBES AN INVESTIGATION OF SEVERAL MATERIALS COATED ON PIEZOELECTRIC QUARTZ CRYSTALS AS POSSIBLE HUMIDITYDETECTORS. THE COATING SELECTIVELY INTERACTS WITH WATER AND INCREASES IN MASS. THE CRYSTAL RESONANCE FREQUENCY DEPENDS ON THE MASS OF THE COATING AND THE SORBED WATER. THE CONCENTRATION OF WATER VAPOUR IS MEASURED BY DETECTING A CHANGE IN THE CRYSTAL VIBRATION FREQUENCY.
