Summary

The article summarizes and comments the essential requisites for obtaining the EC mark, which will be necessary before marketing any product in the European Union. As far as the refrigeration sector is concerned, European directives already exist for building materials, electromagnetic compatibility of electronic equipment, machine security, individual protection devices, and fork lifts; other directives are being prepared on foods, machine security (amendment), measurement devices, packaging, and tests of buildings regarding energy consumption. The general European regulations regarding the admission of products and authorization of organizations in charge of testing, inspecting and certifying such products are also reviewed and the application of the present regulations to non-European (especially developing) countries is mentioned.
