Summary

IN 1985, BRITISH GAS STOPPED USING THE DOUBLE-WALL TANK OF 5,000 TONS LOCATED IN AMBERGATE. THE TANK INSPECTION AND THE RESULTS OF 6 BASIC EXPERIMENTS PROVIDED MUCH TECHNICAL KNOWLEDGE AND MADE IT POSSIBLE TO QUANTIFY THE STRUCTURAL RESPONSE UNDER OPERATING CONDITIONS AND ABNORMAL CONDITIONS THE RESULTS OBTAINED HAVE PROVED THAT LNG TANKS WERE APPROPRIATELY DESIGNED AND CONSTRUCTED. METHODS WERE DEVELOPED WHICH WILL BE RELIABLE FOR THE FUTURE STUDY OF TANKS.
