Summary

THE ABSORPTION OF UHF RADIATION IN SINGLE CRYSTALS OF A MIXED YTTRIUM-HOLMIUM GARNET FERRITE IS STUDIED AT TEMPERATURES OF 4.2 AND 77 K AND FIELD ORIENTATION ALONG THE AXIS. ALONGSIDE WITH FERROMAGNETIC RESONANCE A NUMBER OF OTHER ABSORPTION LINES ARE OBSERVED, SOME BEING WIDE AND SOME NARROW ; THESE MEASUREMENTS ARE CARRIED OUT AT FIELD STRENGTHS FROM 30 TO 160 KILO-OERSTEDS AND FREQUENCIES BETWEEN 35 AND 60 GIGAHERTZ. SOME OF OSCILLATION BRANCHES OF THE MAGNETIC SUBSYSTEM OF A CRYSTAL IN A ZERO FIELD POSSESS AN ANOMALOUSLY NARROW GAP. MOST OF THE RESULTS CAN BE EXPLAINED QUALITATIVELY BY THE MODEL OF INVERSION OF THE HOLMIUM ION GROUND STATE.
