Responsible refrigeration.
Type of article: Article
Summary
Guiding principles for responsible refrigeration have been examined. Key drivers that must be observed and subjected to continuous optimisation are: energy efficiency, refrigerant charge reduction and leak minimisation, following recovery and recycling principles, and economic efficiency. In order to achieve the optimum bottom line it is essential to closely watch all influencing factors and environmental impact categories simultaneously when looking at a specific optimisation process. A "tunnel view" of the refrigerant as the sole component to be addressed will inevitably lead to sub-optimum results. Only the exploration of all potential technology routes - employing all potential refrigerant options - will ensure the continuous improvement of eco-efficiencies of this industry.
