Retrofit baseload LNG plants.

Type of article: Article

Summary

A common requirement in a baseload LNG plant is an increase in output. Instead of adding further complete lines, it may be advantageous to study the existing plant for possible increases in throughput. The authors point out that the techniques for LNG production are changing constantly and alternatives in some parts of a plant may significantly alter the capacity as a whole. With this in mind they discuss plant areas such as feed treatment, refrigeration, the LNG circuit, storage and loading, identifying possible improvements. For instance, the replacement of expansion valves by expansion turbines may improve energy efficiency. It is important however to ensure accurate instrumentation and to conduct performance tests on existing plant before applying simulation techniques to investigate improvements. D.W.H.
