Summary

India has a long history of potato cold stores in various parts of the country. The cold store industry started way back in the 1960s. The construction methodology was typically a civil infrastructure of brick and cement construction with RCC roof. Thermal insulation ranged from rice husk ta a slightly more developed insulation materiallike expanded polystyrene. Some of the cold stores had minerai wool flexible insulation. A thermal insulation system and refrigeration are the key components of a cold store; the refrigeration system brings down the temperature initially, and thereafter thermal insulation maintains the temperature inside continuously.
