Summary

The Working Group 6 of CEN-TC 89 is preparing a proposal for a new standard on room cooling load calculation. Different types of cooling system are considered. Aimed at proposing a method for the sensible cooling loads calculation, the document introduces a procedure based on the Transfer Function Method for evaluating the heat gain for each heat process, the room reference cooling load (i.e. the rate at which the heat must be removed from room to maintain the air temperature at a constant value), the room cooling load. ASHRAE procedure includes the calculations of the room cooling load for convective system and air temperature control only; the CEN document considers more situations: air temperature control and operative temperature control. New values of room transfer functions for different types of cooling systems are presented.
