SELECTION OF CORROSION RESISTANT MATERIALS FOR COOLING TOWERS.
Author(s) : MURPHY D.
Type of article: Article
Summary
THE ARTICLE COVERS AN HISTORICAL APPROACH TO COOLING TOWER MATERIALS FROM WOOD TO MODERN PLASTICS. IT IS EMPHASISED THAT FOR MOST NORMAL CONDITIONS, THE MATERIALS IN STANDARD TOWERS ARE SUITABLE. A SPECIFICATION OF NORMAL CONDITIONS IS GIVEN, THE MAIN AREA REFERRING TO THE CIRCULATING WATER CHEMISTRY. IT MUST BE REMEMBERED ALSO THAT MAINS SUPPLY WATER WILL BE RECIRCULATED, THUS INCREASING THE CONCENTRATION OF CONTAMINANTS. MATERIALS TO COUNTER NON-NORMAL CONDITIONS, SUCH AS STAINLESS STEELS, ARE AVAILABLEBUT AT ADDITIONAL COST. D.W.H.
