Author(s) : MILLINGTON P.

Type of article: Article

Summary

THE ARTICLE REFERS IN THE MAIN TO EVAPORATIVE COOLING TOWERS AND STARTS BY LISTING THE CORROSION SOURCES WHICH OFTEN EXIST EITHER IN THE ORIGINAL WATER SUPPLY OR DISSOLVED INTO IT FROM THE SURROUNDING AMBIENT. A VERY SUCCESSFUL TREATMENT IS THEN DESCRIBED IN WHICH THE TOWER FRAME IS GALVANISED AND THE COMPONENT PARTS ARE COATED WITH A POLYMERIC HYBRID POWDER INCLUDING EPOXY RESINS WHICH IS THERMALLY CURED ONTO THE COMPONENT. THE AUTHOR MAKES A POINT THAT ANY CUTTING OPERATIONS CARRIED OUT ON SITE WILL PRODUCE WEAK POINTS IN ANY INITIAL CORROSION PROTECTION. D.W.H.
