Summary

THE STUDY OF SHADING REQUIRED A PRIOR STUDY OF THE APPARENT MOTION OF THE SUN AT DIFFERENT TIMES OF THE YEAR AND TO ILLUSTRATE THIS MOTION, A SOLAR CHART FOR AMMAN IS PRESENTED. THE CONDITIONS LEADING TO SHADING OF BUILDINGS BY EACH OTHER ARE GIVEN. IT WAS FOUND THAT THE POSSIBLE DIRECTIONS ARE DIVIDED INTO 3 REGIONS HAVING DIFFERENT SHADING CIRCUMSTANCES. AS THE PART OF SOLAR RADIATION THAT IS AFFECTED BY SHADING IS THE DIRECT COMPONENT, THE HEAT GAIN BY SOLID WALLS AND FENESTRATION DUE TO THIS COMPONENT IS CALCULATED. THE RESULTS OF THESE CALCULATIONS WERE USED IN A CASE STUDY.
