Sick building syndrome: responsibility of air conditioning systems.
Author(s) : MOUSNY F.
Type of article: Article
Summary
According to the World Health Organization, the sick building syndrome affects 25 to 30% of new or retrofitted buildings. Having reviewed the origins of the pollution of air conditioned premises and the way to eliminate it, the author shows, based on a statistical study carried out in the United States, that air conditioning cannot be held responsible as the only cause for the sick building syndrome, because it improves the indoor air quality -an important asset because unsuitable ventilation is the main cause for sick buildings.
