THIS CHAPTER DEALS WITH THE CALCULATION OF SOLAR GAIN THROUGH WINDOWS. IN THE FIRST PART THE MECHANISM OF THERMAL FLOW PENETRATION THROUGH UNSHADED WINDOWS IS DISCUSSED. TABLES GIVE THE PRECALCULATED VALUES OF UNITARY GAINS (ESTABLISHED FOR COMMON GLASS) FOR A WINDOW IN THE SHADE AND FOR 16 CASES OF SUNLIT WINDOWS, CORRESPONDING TO 16 DIFFERENT EXPOSURES, FOR THE 15 DIURNAL HOURS BETWEEN JUNE AND SEPTEMBER AND FOR LATITUDES OF 45 AND 49 DEG NORTH. OTHER TABLES GIVE THE CORRECTION FACTORS APPLICABLE TO THE UNITARY FLOWS DEFINED ABOVE FOR 16 CASES OF SINGLE OR DOUBLE SPECIAL WINDOWS. IN THE SECOND PART, THE CASE OF SUBSEQUENTLY SHADED WINDOWS IS STUDIED WITH NEW TABLES OF HEAT FLOWS AND TABLES OF COEFFICIENTS, MAKING IT POSSIBLE TO ALLOW FOR THE SPECIAL KIND OF INNER PROTECTION.
