Summary
A simplified model for estimating the consumption of VRF systems is developed. The VRF or VRV (variable refrigerant volume) air-conditioning system supplies several indoor units and operates among five modes: cooling, heating, mix with priority cooling, mix with priority heating, mix equal cooling and heating. The comparison between the model and fabricants data shows a maximum global difference of 15%, which is acceptable in early stage project calculations.
