Simulation of phase change procedure in heat storage devices using the object oriented modelling language Modelica.

Author(s) : TSCHIRNER T., HOH A., HAASE T., et al.

Summary

The use of the object oriented modelling language Modelica seems to be a promising approach for both the modelling of heat storage devices based on phase change materials and for the simulation of the hydraulic and thermal system of a building. Modelica models already exist for most of the involved elements and physical phenomena. The paper presents a new model for phase changing materials using Modelica. This model takes into account phase dependent material properties as well as supercooling and it is based on a measured temperature dependent heat capacity function. The model can be applied to evaluate different design approaches of a storage device system.
