Small oil-free piston type CO2 compressor.

Author(s) : BAUMANN H.

Summary

An oil-free compressor would solve the oil-related problems of CO2 cycles. But there are still questions regarding the performance, service interval, size and cost of this technology. The objective of the project is to prove the feasibility of an oil-free semihermetic piston type CO2 compressor for supercritical heat pump applications with large temperature spans. The electrically driven functional model will have a power consumption of roughly 500 W at 1500 RPM, 35-bar inlet and 150-bar outlet pressure. Its speed range will be 500 to 3000 RPM. The project was started in July 2000 and will be completed within a year. It is financed by the Swiss Federal Office of Energy.
