Solar air-conditioner testing in an advanced solar test facility.

Number: pap. ID: 409

Author(s) : WHITE S., PERISTY M., REECE R., et al.

Summary

Accurate measurement of air-conditioner performance under controlled conditions is a vital step in the design, development and rating of solar air-conditioning systems. A new facility has been constructed which incorporates a balanced ambient calorimeter, with solar collectors and thermal storage, to enable solar air conditioners to be tested under controlled steady state and transient conditions. The facility includes a software and hardware control interface which utilizes TRNSYS to mimic the transient thermal response of a desired building and climate, in the indoor calorimeter room. The test facility is described, along with example results from the testing of a new prototype desiccant solar air conditioner.
