Summary

The density of coolants based on propylene glycol aqueous solutions with and without corrosion inhibitor is studied for temperatures below 0°C. Concentration and temperature dependencies of the density data in the range from 20 to -10°C are approximated by first and second order polynomials. Investigation of corrosion activity in propylene glycol aqueous solutions with corrosion inhibitors and of salt deposition (phosphor-organic complexes), performed with steels 10, 20, and stainless steel, has shown a high degree of steel protection. Tests under actual conditions in turnaround cooling systems have confirmed the efficiency of the application of propylene glycol aqueous solutions with corrosion inhibitors and of salt deposition for temperatures below 0°C.
