Space applications of superconductivity: instrumentation for gravitational and related studies.

Author(s) : PETERSON R. L.

Type of article: Article

Summary

Superconductivity already appears to have a role in measurements related to gravitational effects (superconducting gyroscope, accelerometers, and levitation). Superconducting devices of promise include magnetometers, cavity oscillators, gravimeters, and bearings. In addition fundamental studies involve many types of tests of gravitational theories, deep space navigation and elucidation of the properties of planetary interiors are areas for potential applications.
