Summary

The paper presents technologies for the medical use of the cooling freezing process, such as cryofiltration for blood purification, a Cryo Maze procedure to suppress atrial fibrillation, cardioplegia and mild hypothermia to sustain the vital organs during open heart surgery, a continuous spinal cord cooling system to prevent paraplegia after surgery of aortic aneurysm and brain hypothermia to prevent the death from ischemic or external injury of the brain. Prospects of topical therapeutic hypothermia as the potential treatment for neurological injury and substitutional methods of organ preservation are discussed.
