Summary

THE NUCLEAR SPIN-LATTICE RELAXATION TIME IN LIQUID HELIUM 3 IS MEASURED WITH A RADIOFREQUENCY SQUID AT TEMPERATURES BETWEEN 0.04 AND 0.7 K AT ZERO PRESSURE AND DIFFERENT FILLINGS OF THE EXPERIMENTAL CELL. THE CONTRIBUTIONS TO NUCLEAR SPIN-LATTICE RELAXATION TIME DUE TO RELAXATION AT THE WALLS OF THE CELL AND IN THE BULK OF THE LIQUID ARE SEPARATED OUT. BELOW ABOUT 0.2 K THE BULK TIME EXCEEDS THE VALUES OBTAINED IN OTHER EXPERIMENTS. AT TEMPERATURES ABOVE ABOUT 0.17 K THE RELAXATION RATE IN AN UNFILLED CELL INCREASES AS A RESULT OF THE APPEARANCE OF VAPOUR ABOVE THELIQUID WHICH TRANSFERS THE MAGNETIZATION TO THE < CEILING > OF THE CELL.
